Based on the international best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagines the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy® and Academy® Award-winner Stephen Schwartz (Disney’s Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted) and is based on the novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ by Gregory Maguire and adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman. Musical staging is by Tony® Award-winner Wayne Cilento and the production is directed by two-time Tony® Award-winner Joe Mantello.

Winner of more than 100 major international awards, Wicked has already been performed in over 100 cities in 14 countries around the world (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, The Philippines, Mexico and Brazil) and has also been translated from its original English into six languages: Japanese, German, Dutch, Spanish, Korean and Portuguese.

The multi record-breaking original Broadway production remains “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times, U.S.) after 13 years and over 5000 performances at the Gershwin Theatre, where it premiered on 30 October 2003 (with previews from 8 October 2003). Already the 10th longest-running show in Broadway history, Wicked is also one of only three musicals in Broadway history to have grossed more than $1 billion (US) at the Box Office (the others being The Phantom of the Opera and Disney’s The Lion King). Time Magazine raved “if every musical had the brains, heart and courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place”.

Soon to become the 18th longest-running show in West End theatre history and “still a phenomenon after ten years” (The Daily Telegraph, UK ), the London production premiered on 27 September 2006 (with previews from 7 September) and has already played over 4000 performances at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Wicked has been hailed as “one of the greatest musicals of our time” (Daily Mail, UK); “one of the biggest hits of our age” (The Observer, UK) and “one of the most popular West End musicals ever” (London Evening Standard, UK).

Wicked played a multi record-breaking, fifteen-city tour of the UK and Ireland from September 2013 - July 2015. The spectacular, award-winning and critically acclaimed production resumed touring in July 2016 (playing a record-breaking sold out engagement at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford (where it was acclaimed by the Telegraph & Argus as “a funny, moving, exciting, thought-provoking and hugely entertaining journey through both the prequel and sequel to the Oz story”). The production continues touring until January 2018, including the premiere engagement in China.

Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman and is based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire. He is best known for the internationally acclaimed musical Wicked and for his songwriting collaborations with Alan Menken on films including Disney’s Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted as well as for Dreamworks’ The Prince of Egypt, for which he wrote both music and lyrics. The Broadway revival of his legendary musical Pippin won the 2013 Tony® Award for ‘Best Musical Revival’ and his 1971 musical Godspell continues to be performed all over the world. His new musical, Schikaneder, recently premiered in Vienna, Austria.

Songs from Wicked, including ‘Defying Gravity’, ‘Popular’ and ‘For Good’ have been covered by many artists and been featured in numerous TV shows including the internationally popular Glee.

If you think you know the Wicked Witch of the West, think again...

When Dorothy famously triumphed over the Wicked Witch, we only ever heard one side of the story. Gregory Maguire’s “outstanding novel” (The Independent), ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, ingeniously re-imagines the Land of Oz, creating a parallel universe to the familiar story written by L. Frank Baum and first published as ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ in 1900.

Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba. Following an encounter with The Wizard, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Experience this unforgettable musical and discover that you’ve not been told the whole story about the Land of Oz…
