PAC-12 CHINA GAME STANFORD vs. HARVARD will be held at Mercedes-Benz Arena (Shanghai Expo Culture Center) on Nov.12, 2016.

On Nov. 12, the men's basketball teams from two of the world's most renowned universities - Stanford and Harvard - will display their skills to a Chinese audience at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.

This is the second year the Pac-12 will open its men’s basketball season in China. Last year's inaugural Pac-12 China Game marked a significant milestone as the Pac-12 became the first U.S. sports league, collegiate or professional, to host a regular-season contest in China.

The Pac-12 is an American athletic conference in the NCAA comprised the 12 leading universities in both academics and athletics, located in the Western U.S.: The University of Arizona, Arizona State University, the University of California-Berkeley, the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Colorado, the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Stanford University, the University of Southern California, the University of Utah, the University of Washington and Washington State University.

“After last year's historic game, we're proud to continue to demonstrate the unifying and educational power of sport with the second Pac-12 China Game,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “A fundamental tenet shared by the Pac-12 and the Ivy League is to provide incredible opportunities and experiences to student-athletes, and we're thrilled that this year's game will spotlight two universities that truly embody academic and athletic excellence.”

The Pac-12 China Game will help usher in the start of the American college basketball season. The game will tip at 12 p.m. local Shanghai time on Saturday, Nov. 12 and be televised live back on ESPN in the United States on Friday, Nov. 11. Tickets are available through in the United States and China.

Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA), the world’s largest online and mobile commerce company, returns as the presenting sponsor. The company’s leadership will also host the two teams and delegations from the universities at Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou for an educational seminar on Chinese economy and e-commerce.

Longtime Pac-12 partner Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC), which operates under China's Ministry of Education, will co-host the game, and AEG Asia will again operate the event at Mercedes-Benz Arena and also serve as event promoter.

The 2016 Pac-12 China Game will feature the highly regarded men's basketball programs from Harvard and Stanford, the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 ranked university in the annual Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Stanford, which sponsors 36 varsity sport teams, has been awarded the Directors' Cup as America's most successful collegiate athletics program for 22 consecutive years, while Harvard offers the most varsity sports of any Division I university in the U.S. at 42.

Stanford men's basketball, winner of two National Invitation Tournament (NIT) titles in the past five years, will be in its first season under new head coach Jerod Haase. The Cardinal will boast one of the most experienced teams in the Pac-12 in 2016-17 with 10 of its top 11 scorers from last year returning, while highly touted freshmen Kodye Pugh and Trevor Stanback will make their collegiate debuts.

Harvard men's basketball, which produced NBA guard Jeremy Lin, has won five Ivy League titles and made four NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Tommy Amaker. The Crimson will be led by All-Ivy League players Siyani Chambers and Zena Edosomwan and boast one of the nation's top recruiting classes.

Last season’s Pac-12 China Game between the University of Washington and University of Texas was an overwhelming success with more than 7,000 fans at Mercedes-Benz Arena and a nationally televised ESPN audience in the U.S. witnessing a fast-paced game won by the Pac-12's Huskies, 77-71. That game featured standout Washington freshmen Marquese Chriss and Dejounte Murray, who were chosen alongside Chinese Basketball Association stars Zhou Qi and Wang Zhelin in the 2016 NBA Draft.
